What is Stray about? All You Need To Know

The gaming season seems to be picking up pace as we near new game releases and announcements. Among these has been the highly anticipated release of Stray, a new adventure game that lets you play the part of a feline in the modern-day world.

Developed by BlueTwelve Studios, Stray focuses on interesting mechanics while offering a unique view of its everyday world. Let’s find out more about Stray and what makes it so special for its players.

What is Stray about?

Stray is an adventure RPG where you get to play as a friendly feline in an underground hidden world. Stray offers a third-person perspective with mostly open-world gameplay with environmental puzzles to help challenge you along the way. The game primarily focuses on exploration with atmospheric sounds and environments that awe and challenge you at every step.

Playing as a cat offers unique ways to interact with your environment which makes for interesting approaches to all in-game puzzles. Additionally, the lowered perspective and the ability to crawl and fit into tight spaces also allow for a unique look and feel to the overall game.

The Plot

Warning: Some major Spoilers ahead.

The game’s plot follows our stray protagonist along with its pack, trekking through a scientific facility. As the felines make their way through, our protagonist loses his way and falls down a rabbit hole full of slips, slides, and chasms that lead to an unknown underground world full of robots, sentient machines, and flesh-eating bacteria.

Thankfully, our cat soon comes across a friendly companion, an AI that decides to help us on our journey. After being transferred to a nearby mini-drone, B-12 our new AI companion accompanies us, as we explore the new underground world through the eyes of our feline protagonist.

As you progress, you unravel the mystery of how this world devoid of human life came to be, how the companions designed to help humans slowly took over, and how an evolving group of mutant creatures is a threat to both.

Our team of unlikely heroes, Stray and B-12 will meet other characters on their journey to discovering more about the world, and that they aren’t the only ones trying to escape it. With the help of their newfound companions, Stray and B-12 will make their way through the city, slowly unraveling its secrets while enduring a few sacrifices along the way. Soon, Stray discovers the harsh reality of how the underworld came to be and the sacrifice needed to finally escape from it.

Filled with thrills, kills, and high stakes, the final act takes you on a roller coaster journey that ends with our feline friend finally seeing the sunlight only to be baffled by a mysterious easter egg in the end.
